I look at Ely like a long term project. He needs another couple years of development at which he time he could step in in an emergency and manage a game for us

I think some are overreacting just a tad bit, the same was said about Gmac. Saban wants him to manage the game, not make mistakes, put the team in the right play...

a lot of the times, you just don't know how good someones going to be, hell he could be the next Brett Elway...

Ely isn't a good enough QB to play without making mistakes. He's improving, but he's still got a ways to go.
