Missouri is not Southern. Hell, it isn't even Eastern. Get a map out, look at it, study it, get to know it, make it your friend.
I am 4th Gen Floridian. Half my family is in the Citrus business and have been for a long time. We are Southern. We hunt and fish. However, you would probably laugh at the size of our deer.
And I don't wear jorts. Actually I did when I was little, but not since 6th grade or so.

Geographically and culturally, I agree to a certain extent. The Northern parts of the state along with the major metro areas aren't very southern at all. The rural areas are more "Midwestern farmers" whereas the metro areas are, well let's just say they are what one would expect from any metro area.
Now, I honestly can't tell the difference between northern Arkansas, and southern Missouri.
