2. I just perused the last coaches/AP poll and didn't see Florida in either one. 55th best university in the world can't even produce a top 25 football team in the USA?

People who brag about academic rankings on sports message boards do so because they don't have much to brag about sports wise.
But if you wanna go down that road, at least pick the best ranking available, which according to the Chronicle of Higher Education, is this one:
best universities in the world
FU is still in the top 100 fwiw.
And still sadly missing from preseason rankings for top football teams.
