If Penn State Scandal occurred in the SEC , would we support a ban?

Imagine a similar size and scope, which just doesn't seem possible...
Would you be willing to call for a temporary ban on the football program to right the wrongs?
Should Penn State supporters consider the same?
"The NCAA has a long history of issuing harsh penalties to schools and programs that violate it recruitment and conduct policies. From SMU in 1987 to Ohio State and USC more recently, even minor violations have warranted cancelled seasons, TV and bowl game suspensions, and deep fines. The NCAA implemented those punishments with the stated goal of preserving the integrity of its competitors. It should act in the same spirit now.
The aforementioned penalties crushed programs for buying players cars, clothes, jewelry or access to agents. Is there a commensurate punishment for actively covering up ongoing child rape? The Freeh report and grand jury testimonies confirm that Penn State's prime motive for covering up Sandusky's crimes was to preserve the image of its football program, the flagship of the institution. The conclusion that Spanier, Paterno, and others reached was the momentum and public image of its football program were far more important than intervening in the sexual abuse of children - on and off its property - by one of its native sons. This cannot happen again.
Failing to suspend the PSU football program from NCAA participation (for years, if not indefinitely) ranks this scandal as a less serious offence than paying recruits under the table. The message must be sent that no athletic program or university is more important than the law, nor more important than protecting the members of its community. The magnitude of the crimes and cover-up at PSU is now clear. The atrocities were not the product of one rogue individual, but indeed were prolonged and even facilitated by the synergy of an institution that fancied itself too big to fail. The NCAA needs to make it clear that none of its constituents is that important. Given its precedent punishments, anything short of suspending PSU football is another weak attempt to sweep this uncomfortable problem under the rug." -BuffetRules

If it were Bama I would support the death penalty.

If it isn't an NCAA matter, it damn sure is a B1G matter.
If they don't act, don't ever listen to a yankee lecture on the SEC again.

I would never support a ban for LSU in similar circumstances.

I'm surprised Auburn hasn't been banned for failing to stop the gang activity that has developed down there.

A more intriguing question - what if went down at your school? Would you still support them?
And when I say your/you, I mean all of us.

If what happened at Penn St had happened to an SEC school? I would hope the harshest penalties upon their heads and program. Yes even if it had an AU on it.

I'd renounce my fandom completely and probably become a Gump. Yes I'd be completely for a death penalty of my own Alma Mater

I cannot imagine a Penn State scandal at any SEC school.
Not that we are choir boys. Far from it. Many of us would let alums slip envelopes full of money to our players, hire "tudors" to do their work, eagerly pay daddy pimps a couple hundred thousand to sign their 5 star kids, smile approvingly as some of our finest southern belles bed prospective recruits, and so forth.....
But whatever else we may be, we do have a sense of honor in the south that does not knowingly tolerate one of our own butt raping children in our house.

I absolutely would, I know that it is not the current staff or players fault, but that should not matter. The players should be granted an outright release. Someone has to be an example why not them

I don't think it is a football issue per se and not an NCAA issue. Let the courts do their thing.

I would definitely keep Bama in the league to enjoy beating the shite out of them while players avoid that place like the plague.

In response to OP. Hell yes I would support a ban. Does not matter which school. It was Institutional at P.State in which Joe PA. was involved. Sucks for the current players, I hope that IF the NCAA does bring sanctions they allow the current players to transfer w/o having to sit out.

Idk. Seems like you'd be punishing the wrong ppl. Everyone that covered it up at PSU was either fired and facing criminal charges, is dead, or in jail.

instead of the death penalty, I'd like to see them have sanctions like you can't imagine. In addition to only 7 or 8 a scholarships a year, only 50 players could be on the team (including practice) at any time for three years and no bowl game.
Imagine some team like Indiana going into "Happy Valley" and winning 47-3.

Listened to that USA Today sports reporter Christine Brennan yesterday...she's advocating a year long PSU football ban ! That's just idiotic and typical of an ultra liberal media member....how does shutting down football, rectify the wrongs of the top admins. and head coach ?
This is a case of willful/criminal neglect as well as cover-up...the GUILTY parties are mostly identified so punish them not the current players/coaches, who had nothing to do with this prolonged and sordid episode. She's thinking/acting just like NCAA enforcement often does by punishing the innocent vs. the guilty !
I wonder if anyone has thought about how all the other sports programs would be funded if PSU football were shut down for a year ?
IDIOTS I tell ya...pure IDIOTS !

I would support a suspended ban. They are banned unless they fire each and every one of those jackasses that ignored or covered this shite up. No sense in punishing the innocent parties.

I'd rather not but .......
I would want the program, whoever it was, shut down for two years and a re-start
Issue IMO is that the university saw the football program as bigger than the university
shut down must occur to SHOW that anything like this will not be tolerated anywhere at anytime
already failed once
