Welcome to the 6-1-1 schedule, SEC fans – as brutal a compromise as the league could've come up with, and it's all to preserve two games for four schools: Alabama vs. Tennessee and UGA vs. Auburn.

Alright, I'm going to play devil's advocate here.

Why is it the fault of those four schools?

Were any of those four schools actively lobbying Slive to expand to 14 teams?

Because if the SEC stayed at 12, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

And it's never been any secret that those four schools will not negotiate their precious rivalries.

It sucks to lose the second rotating cross division game. But if there's anyone to blame, shouldn't it be Slive?

Also, Alleva has already poobahed the idea of a 9th conference game. I believe most other ADs are also opposed to adding another conference game (mostly for financial reasons) but if Alleva believes the rotation is so almighty important then why isn't he open to a 9th game?

Because of higher education budget cuts, the AD is now tasked with "donating" more money back to the school. Alleva has already managed a schedule with only 6 home games, it doesn't work very well. In odd years, LSU would be locked into 5 away games. Seven home games, while not as untenable as 6, still puts an awful lot of strain when you have to build softball stadiums and pay $1 million to women's basketball coaches. Right now, Alleva is locked in to 8 SEC games, only four away, and he can do what he pleases with the rest.
