And while raising the level of play for FL/UGA/USC it would dilute the level of play for LSU, would it not?

Hoping you wouldn't notice that.

Seriously, over a lot of years it won't matter. Programs' strengths wax and wane. Right now it's LSU and 'Bama (with a little Arky pretentiousness thrown in for spice), but over the next 20 years, that power will shift all over the place (well, except maybe for Vandy and Kentucky).

exactly.

and if Bama fans care about the Tennessee game as much as they say they do, why would they care what the schedule does for LSU?

When the power shift includes a team other than the Big6 let me know. It damn sure hasn't happened in the last 20 yrs, and I don't see it will happening in the next 20 yrs.

Here are my thoughts on this issue as an LSU fan:

-I don't want to lose the Florida game every year. It's a great game, and it's been really helpful to LSU in the past.

-Everyone keeps bringing up that all these other conferences have canceled long term rivalry games, but doesn't anyone think that at least part of what makes the SEC great is that we've been able to preserve some of them?

-I don't like the idea of barely ever playing the other side of the conference, would 9 conference games be that bad? Yes the league is the toughest every year, but elite teams still emerge, and would still do after one extra conference game. (In fairness to the East teams, it could be worked out in such a way that the years they play 5 SEC roadies, they play their ACC rival at home.)

-Blah Blah, Bama runs the conference, butthurt, $180k, Mark Richt, Fulmer Cup, Little Debbies, ESPN hates LSU
