Vanderbilt should have "abolished their athletic department" years ago. That notion has always been inaccurate or incomplete at best. All this did was allow Vandy sports to legally start getting some of the gajillion dollars from Vanderbilt's endowment.

Vandy orginally put down 'Tartan Turf', Astro Turf's poor cousin (like Tennessee first put down in 1968) before putting in Astro Turf in 1981.After the plethera of schools in the SEC in the 70's putting in the fake stuff, they were the last ones to remove it after the 1998 season.

LSU fan is right about the restructuring of the AD. Sounded bad to the outside world at the time but it has been the best decision ever made for VU athletics. VU and Florida are the only 2 SEC teams to make a bowl game, and NCAA tournaments in basketball and baseball winning the SEC basketball tourney and losing in the final in baseball.

I'm not a huge fan of the move to turf for baseball but I'm going to have to trust Corbin on this one considering how he has completely turned around the baseball program. There are also plans in the works to add an HD video/scoreboard to Hawkins Field as well. Biggest reason he wanted the change was to reduce the number of lost practice days due to weather in January and Feburary. If you would like a comparison google Wichita State's field it will be very similar.
