Football is getting Field Turf and baseball is getting a new form of Astro turf which covers the entire field, with the infield colored like dirt and slightly lower than the rest of the field.

Hard to grow good turf here in Nashville with the winters and frozen field in early Spring.

Wonder if more teams will go to this?

I think Texas has that on their baseball field.

We have turf that runs behind home plate and extends down to first and third base.

I like the improvements Vandy is doing to their facilities. I think they are getting a new HD screen as well as a new indoor practice facility.

Turf covered baseball fields are Busch league IMO.

If you wouldn't smoke it, don't play on it.

Have they installed the new football turf yet? If so, are there any pics?

Vanderbilt should have "abolished their athletic department" years ago. That notion has always been inaccurate or incomplete at best. All this did was allow Vandy sports to legally start getting some of the gajillion dollars from Vanderbilt's endowment.

Vandy orginally put down 'Tartan Turf', Astro Turf's poor cousin (like Tennessee first put down in 1968) before putting in Astro Turf in 1981.After the plethera of schools in the SEC in the 70's putting in the fake stuff, they were the last ones to remove it after the 1998 season.
