Yeah, Ivan was at 130 mph when it hit Orange Beach/Perdido Beach. It was still a hurricane at Selma 120 miles inland. I'll never forget seeing the local forecast even that far inland calling for souteast winds of 75 to 85 mph with gusts to 100 even that far inland. Witnessing that kind of wind blowing through large pine trees is incredibly intimidating.

I was a junior in high school when Ivan hit. I went to school at Oxford which is on I-20 roughly half-way between Birmingham and Atlanta. They canceled school for Thursday and Friday of that week in anticipation of Ivan's arrival. We got a little bit of wind and rain. Nothing major at all. In hindsight, we got two days off for nothing.
