Sidewalk fans...

Which one of these two would you call a real “sidewalk fan”…
#1. Fan of school “A” has never attended the school, had a relative attend the school, gone to a ball game, donated money or set foot on campus yet loves to talk bad about “that other school” and their fans.
#2. Fan of school “B” did not attend that school but has sent two children to school “B” one with a degree and the other finishing up and has attended many ball games and given money to the school in support.
Since neither fan went to the school they call their own would you consider them both sidewalk fans?

#3 Fan due to growing up in same locale but attending another school after serving 10 years in military due to family needs. Does this count?

Is this thread some perverted way of defending the nature your own sidewalk affiliation?

Fan B is not a sidewalk fan, but he's lower in the fan caste system than someone who attended the school.

Considering the source,
1. Auburn
2. Bama
Now, what's the context?

Both are basically the same.

Number without the setting foot on campus clause, it is easy to make a visit

Considering fan "B" made huge "donations" and took on debt, I would say they are in.

There is no certain tier when it comes to a sidewalk fan. You either attended the school or you didn't.
I don't care if you lived across the street from campus your whole life. If you didn't attend a class then you're a sidewalker.

When the school those "real fans"* support stop accepting funds from the state (or other public entity) that ALL citizens of the state contribute to via tax code....then those "real fans" can profer scorn as they may. Until then...they are simply fans that also happen to be alumni.
* attended or graduated said State University?

The number ones with no connect to the area the school is located get a special award

Why are alumni and attendees so insecure that they need to separate themselves from fans that didn't attend the school they cheer for?

I've been going to UF games for 20 years. Applied to go there but didn't get in.

Sidewalk fan here. Never attended LSU and I didn't even apply there. Both parents are LSU grads, but I went to Sewanee and I also have a degree from Bama

Cheer for the school that you went to or someone in your family went to (if you didn't go at all). It makes no sense to me to randomly cheer for some school's teams when you have no real tie to the institution.
