South Carolina picked up its second verbal commitment this week as three-star defensive end David Johnson (Lithonia, Ga.) ended his recruitment with an anticipated verbal commitment to the Gamecocks.

The 6-foot-1, 253-pounder also considered Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Louisville and a host of others.

South Carolina was the first to offer Johnson last year. Gamecocks defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward is his recruiter of record. Ward signed Joe Harris (2012 class) and Cedrick Cooper (2011 class) out of Lithonia previously.

Johnson dominated at both the Atlanta MVP Camp and Atlanta Nike Football Training Camp earlier this spring. He is verbal commitment No. 10 for South Carolina in the 2013 class.

Johnson is the nation's No. 17 weakside defensive end prospect and the No. 34 prospect in the state of Georgia, according to 247Sports.
