our presentation was on oversigning so sadly i had to take the GT side. we were emhasizing how oversigning is as an old problem and how Bryant's "betrayal" and the subsequent tie vote led to GT's leaving and subsequent fall. yea, i couldn't let them just be white knights

The Alabama version just makes Georgia Tech look like they had a bratty bruised ego, which, obviously isn't the whole story, and probably not altogether untrue.

what i got from reading it was that Georgia Tech had sour grapes because the rest of the SEC was oversigning and had easier standards and so they decided to huff and puff thinking people needed them. they realized that wasn't true and got all their things and up and left only to realize later what a horrible decision that truly was. Bobby Dodd has no one to blame but his own ego.
it's funny that tech's vagina was sandy that far back

Did you read about the huge clash he had with Bear Bryant? It coincided with an Alabama player's elbow to the face of the Tech guy. Apparently, it went way downhill after that.

He really was such a baby. They haven't ever recovered either. He thought he was going to be the king of the castle and he turned out to be the dong.

And I don't disagree with you. I hate seeing people bail on Tennessee just because we suck. I love the Vols. They're my team no matter what and I'll be going to the games I can no matter how much we suck because, at the very least, I can still see the orange jerseys, the Power T, listen to Rocky Top, and have a gigantic silo of Coke. But I understand why people aren't willing to do that, either for economic reasons or just because they don't see better days ahead for athletics.
Well said, sir. And let me add the Power T to my list of jealousies (I forgot about it!). I've been only once (2010) but it was awesome.
UT will be back.

UT's struggles have taught me a lot. I've learned that schadenfreude isn't for me, because I know what it feels like now to suffer through some really really bad football. It sucks seeing your team (and, in my case and many others' case, your alma mater and school) perform so poorly in a sport you love so much. So I don't take any pleasure in seeing other teams struggle, because I don't think the fans deserve it -- maybe the coaches, maybe the administration, but the fans make the game special, and it really sucks when they have to live with the mistakes of others.
Again, well said. I think the 80s were a period of delusion for Alabama. Gene Stallings did just enough to reinforce that, winning 10 games a year, competing for the SEC, and of course the 92 nc.
DuBose, Franchione, Mike Price, and Mike Shula brought us down to earth (I'm not a shula hater--he came when no one else could and faced impossible odds. Probably in over his head either way, but I wish him well).
That period was transformative for this fan base. Yes, we still had high expectations, yes we still wanted to win, and yes maybe we are still a tad bit unrealistic. But Saban has shown what the right coach at the right place can do. We are savoring every moment, speculating how long it can last, etc. Truly, we will enjoy it while it lasts. I still have to pinch myself.
I think going through the periods you are going through will make the winning that much sweeter. Beating UT in '07 felt about as good as it gets, because it felt like a rebirth.
I'm sure the first time UT beats Alabama again will be orgasmic.

I see better days ahead, doesn't mean I have to drop $1k to barely stomach the bad ones. That's what HDTVs are for. People can give all the rabble, rabble fan card BS, but we aren't talking monopoly money. If they want people to pay, it's time to start competing with the big boys again.

I haven't seen that one. Email it to me when you think of it. We've got plenty of time tween now and then.

The Bama/Tn series has been very streaky..
Some of the runs each has pulled off:
Bama wins in a row
currently at 5
86-92 - 7
71-81 - 11
61-64 - 4
Tenn wins in a row
95-01 - 7
82-85 - 4
67-70 - 4
55-60 - 5 (includes a tie)
There are more going further back.. but u get the idea.

The biggest problem with UTK Ticket Sales, aside from the weak-arse football product the last couple of years, has been the way the UT AD handles football season tickets.
For instance, for a $1,000 donation, you are eligible to purchase season tickets in the end-zone upper deck nose bleeds at about $300 per ticket... we're looking at approximately a $1,600 cost for a pair of crappy seats.
The reason people are not buying season tickets - $1,000 donation aside (which is stupid, should sell all end-zone upper deck, nose bleed tickets at $100 donation) - is you can go down to the strip on gamedays, shell out about $70-80 a ticket for the big games and end up with great lower level tickets.
The Bama home game two years ago, I took my grandfather, a die-hard Vol fan alas. Didn't have tickets prior to gameday, bought two lowers, five rows off the field in section N near visitors tunnel for $75 apiece. ... Let's say you spend $75 apiece over the four big home games... $600, which is the price of the upper deck nose bleed season tickets prior to the required $1,000 donation. Makes sense to me.

I bought 8 season tickets in 2010...four upper endzone and four lower bowl. When I bought the first four, they let me buy four more for no additional donation. I ended up taking a bath on all but the Bama tickets. Couldn't give some of the tickets away.
