hang in there dude. All powerful programs have their ebb and flows and down periods. This is UT's. LSU went thru a down era in the 90's and Alabama was down for while on probation. Better days lie ahead for yall. You have too many resources.

Adding to that point someone brought up some play from the UT/UF game in 2000 and trying to look it up ran across some video of a local news team interviewing fans in Knoxville about the game. Just through the interviews you could feel the intensity and the buildup of a "Goliath vs Goliath" match-up.

UT's struggles have taught me a lot. I've learned that schadenfreude isn't for me, because I know what it feels like now to suffer through some really really bad football. It sucks seeing your team (and, in my case and many others' case, your alma mater and school) perform so poorly in a sport you love so much. So I don't take any pleasure in seeing other teams struggle, because I don't think the fans deserve it -- maybe the coaches, maybe the administration, but the fans make the game special, and it really sucks when they have to live with the mistakes of others.
Alabama is a perfect example. It was easy to sit back and say, "Well, if they weren't cheaters they wouldn't be in trouble," but the fact is that people who had nothing to do with the situation (future players and the fans) had to deal with the repercussions while those responsible got to walk with (comparatively speaking) little punishment, leaving devastation in their wake.

Things were really bleak right around the Mike Price thing... And our coaching searches were a disaster. I remember watching ESPN and watching them say Alabama couldn't ever hire a top 10 coach again. Then Shula... Which, even though there was a 10 win season, it felt like it was a piggie's house of straw.
That said, I have never had such a fun year of football as 2008 or 2009. We were beating everyone that had beaten us for so long, and all of that pain we'd endured made the seasons feel giddy. You guys will get there. No doubt.

Big Orange, how right you are. I always wondered why the future players, coach, and fanbase had to pay for the penalties of NCAA violations that the previous coach committed. The violators(sp) were allowed to walk, while the school had to suffer for what they did. Basketball is the sport that really comes to my mind. Hey Bella, you seem like a logical poster who really realizes what it means when your school's biggest rival is down. Are you old enough to remember the Tech/Bama rivalry? If not, ask your grandparents because Tech left the conference in the mid sixties.

I think we'll get back eventually too. I mean, we're 9th in all time wins, this season we're going to reach 800 wins probably, and we're one of the "blue blood" programs. I'm looking forward to it, when it happens. I can't wait to beat Florida and Alabama again, whenever that day comes.

Thank you! I'm not old enough to remember the Tech rivalry, but my family was close to the program, and so I get ALL of the old stories. I love hearing them...I like hearing the old stories about Cholly Mac and all of those people from that era.

I love old football stories. I so wish my great grandmother was still alive. She was born in 1903 and used to go to Tennessee games in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. When I was a wee lad I thought to ask her about the Titanic but not enough about the Vols

I think that's where tradition really helps. It doesn't take long for a school with all of the resources that Tennessee has to pop back. As an Alabama fan, I'd like a few more years of dominance before games become close again. But we need the close games too...
I think there is no place more fun than Tuscaloosa on the Friday night before an Alabama Tennessee game during a well matched year.

I know y'all hate Tech, but I love them just because of their Ford Model A. Beautiful car. So beautiful.
Not crazy about yellow jackets though.

We have grandparents that are the same age... My parents are older, and so I get all of their stories too, plus the ones their parents told them... we'll have something to talk about!

Hope you know my gigging is in good natured fun.
I'd like to see the 3rd Sat to be intense as it used to be. I still think one of the best games I've seen was the 9-6 game in 1990. Gotta love a good defensive battle.
And while yall are here, both of you gonna be back in for the CFB FL?

YES! I was just going to email you... have you seen the website that takes everyone's money in advance and holds it until the season is over?
