I thought the FOI only did actual emails and a record of texts.... Will someone explain?

At least in the state of Arkansas, FOI requests are like subpoenas, but they work for public officials, and unlike subpoenas, they have to be answered in a reasonable amount of time, usually three days.

If there's a record of it, it's up for grabs. So it's a question of whether or not was saved. Emails are usually saved on a main or backup server, but texts are usually deleted regularly. There is no reasonable expectation to save every text message, so if I had to guess, a reporter FOI'd the text record of Petrino between a set amount of dates. If Petrino turned in his phone, they should all be there. (There may be another mechanism in place, I'm not sure.)

The screenshots from arkansassports360 look like they were pulled off the originating phone. (I use an iPhone, so my texts are always on the right. The Petrino texts are on the right.) From where I sit, it looks like these are from the actual phone. If these were from AT&T, they would be in a different format, just straight up text on paper. Unless of course some art director at arkansassports360 did a mockup. I would hope not.

If that's the case, whatever is left on the phone is fair game, I imagine. Don't expect pictures or videos if he deleted them. They're gone. That's why you didn't know what Nutt sent to whatsherface from 40/29. They were probably gone, or the guys doing the FOIing only asked for the phone record. You have to be specific.

This is just from my experience. I've only done a few FOI requests, most in person, and most were complied with right away. So, maybe that's an answer to your question.

Which is a complete joke on the part of the Arkansas media for releasing all of this shite.

No good can come of it, all they are doing is hurting his family more and more by leaking details of his texts no one should really ever see other than them.

THANK YOU!

Seems like he would have erased his phone before he turned it in.

They aren't employed by the University of Arkansas. Their job is to deliver information to people, not be judge of whether or not it will hurt someone. They are doing their jobs.

I agree. It's incredibly intrusive, especially for the people who are unfortunate to have been called by him. I still can't believe he was dumb enough to use his phone knowing the records could be seen.

Wrong, they are further validating Long's decision, especialy since he is receiving death threats now. It will get far far worse before all is said and done.

Seems like there is something in the middle. I understand your point, but it's a lot to put innocent people through.

Attention=website hits, papers bought, better ratings, more money. I guess you're right, but that's the nature of the industry everywhere. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Wrong, Long already validated it more than enough.

All they are doing is getting some twitter hits, some website hits, and getting attention the media loves at the expense of Petrino's family, Dorrell's family, and her ex-fiance's family.

The content of messages from state owned phone to state owned phone is considered far game but the contents between state owned & private party phone off limits ?

The media is driven by the sensational. What is sensational sells. If you are an up and coming media type in NWA and you have ambitions of a Pulitzer and getting out of NWA these kind of things punch your ticket...

And, Bobby is giving them everything they are finding. Petrino is at fault for all of this, don't forget that.

...except you don't know where the trail leads or what it leads to unless you follow it.

I well remember people complaining loudly about 2 PITA loser reporters obsession with a botched burglary back in the early '70's.

Exactly. While it may be a bit sensational, they're simply relaying information
