How does the $20k fit in the equation?

with the young woman,of course. I understand how she was reasonably unfarily hired (in terms of the normal process). But what on Earth was the line item for the additional $20,000 supposed to be for? As much money as Petrino makes, has couldn't he have just supplied that from one of his own accoutns?

He gave her the money to buy a new car.

I just want to know whether it was BMFP's own money or the university's.

I thought it was a signing bonus? Just a "sneaky" way to give her bang money?

I think he did. The 20K was a personal gift from him to her. I didn't hear Long say that it was UA money. I think Long wanted that out in the media because he knew it would look worse to come out afterwards.

Jeff LOng has not disclosed where that money came from but that was the bomshell from last night.
I really have no idea why?
But ask yourself, why would a rich high profile person give a lowly woman 20k?
There are some reasons out there.

Did the money come from the University or from Petrino himself?

Wealthy dudes buy their girlfriends cars and expensive jewelry all of the time. Seems like that is what happened here. It is our society's acceptable form of prostitution.

$20,000 is cheap compared to what ms Becky stands to make if she finally kicks his arse to the curb

I don't think NCAA rules are a concern with regard to the $20,000 payment. I think this is strictly a sexual discrimination concern.
Before the news conference yesterday, the Hog faithful that were still defending Petrino were claiming that there was nothing untoward about Dorrell being hired for the recruiting position. And, without that $20,000 payment, maybe they could have continued with that argument. But, after you learn that Petrino is dishing out tens of thousands of dollars to her, it's pretty hard to argue that his hiring of Dorrell for this position was not a quid pro quo arrangement. Whatever support Petrino might have received from the Arkansas administration would have evaporated when that came out--the legal counsel had to have gone ballistic.
