Paul Rhodes is pretty interesting though
Yeah, Rhodes is a damn good coach and would be a good hire...solid character.
For an offensive mind with some TX connections...Chad Morris??

1) davis
2) holtz
3) briles
4) tubs
5) Gus
6) McGhee
That list would go today. If they were willing to be patient & go interim for 2012 the. They'd be able to go after some really good coaches in off season.

I wish we had looked Rhoades more this offseason. He's a hell of a coach. Chad Morris is a little too inexperienced but he would recruit Texas well, and if they're talking about Garrick McGee then why not Morris. Still think they should go for Briles

Lulz at Joe Schad mentioning Dave Wannstedt. He'll never be a head coach anywhere again. He's terrible.

I would go interim from within. Get the homerun hire in the offseason.
If Butch Davis is the guy go ahead and put yourself on probation now.

I'm not so sure the list of realistic candidates would be that much better with Knile Davis and Tyler Wilson leaving. You might be better off using the allure of a top 5 team to bring in a good coach now.
Also you have the big fear of the interim coach actually doing well and winning 10 or 11 games with Petrino's talent and you end up having to permanently hire the next Larry Coker or Bill Stewart.

I think the first call Long makes is to Skip.
But Skip turns them down. The second call has to go to Gruden as a hey I need a coach want it? He gets turned down there also. The last call goes to Pat Fitzgerald. He offers him the farm and he hopefully accepts it.
He can't offer Garrick due to no HC experience, people will go all Jack Crowe on him.
If it was me, I get Jerry, Ken, Lou, Lindsey, Horton, and some former players (exclude Grovey) and have them help you out target a NFL guy with ties to SEC.

Careful speaking in absolutes. Many Hog fans were absolutely certain Petrino would survive, too.

Tubberville is the man for the job

Jeff's first call is to see what AD jobs are open.

My guess is Gus Malzahn, also get a RB with Dyer to follow
I KNOW the majority of Hog fans damn sure don't want Dyer, and that the state is split over Malzahn. Malzahn is a good offensive coordinator who got lucky with a gift like Cam Newton. There would probably be more visiting fans than actual Hog fans show up to the games if that hire happened. Hell, that'll probably happen anyway. It sucks, because the atmosphere at RRS won't be like it was at the 2010 Alabama game. That was by far the best game and atmosphere I've ever been to.
I'm sure it'll be Butch Davis, but I don't really GAF at this time. We will be mediocre for years to come, so it's kind of irrelevant TBH.
