This is laughable. The fans that matter are the ones who care most about the schools reputation - not just it's on the field performance. The "fans that matter" are the ones who Long is talking with today. I would imagine his investigation has three phases:

1) How quickly and cleanly can we get out of this contract (if we determine to do so) and what risk, if any, do we have of suit from BP?

2) Phone calls to the big money people (i.e. the "fans that matter") about their thoughts on the situation, will they help cover buyout of new coach, etc.

3) Calls to agents to gage interest in new coaches. They'll want to hear answers to steps 1 & 2 first, but they'll have a plan in place if they hear what they need to. Jeff Long is impressive.

For the fans claiming this is "no big deal" you need to get a clue. She's his subordinate. She already has grounds to sue him & the university for sexual harassment. Her job is likely never going to work out now, her engagement is likely off. The best thing she has going for her is the possibility of suit.

Mike Price didn't sleep with a subordinate at Alabama, but he did allow a stripper to use his university credit card for over $1,000 of room service. He embarassed the university (in May) and lost his job. Same should happen to Petrino b/c his is worse.

Mike Price also never coached a down at Bama before he got fired.

Would Bama fire Nick Saban if news broke today that he did the exact same thing as Price?

The lawsuit would probably be settled out of court and cost far less than paying the buyout for a high profile coach. It will certainly cost less than if they slip back to mediocrity. Lawsuits get handled quietly every day. The media could throw a wrench in that, however I'd settle out of court and throw some clauses in there about talking to the media, etc.
