So some teams get ranked outside of the top 25 and some teams do not?

Each sport is different. For example the football poll, if the poll would have been extended based on votes, Mizzou would have ranked 29th. Tennessee had a craptastic losing season, UT benefitted from me capping the points in a sport at 50. Mizzou benefitted from receiving votes, they should not be penalized for being just outside the top 25.

In track, where you placed in the meet is where you rank essentially. If a team didn't get points in a poll they were given a non rank penalty and basically ranked 50th. If you're like S. Carolina and Arkansas basketball and aren't in the top 50 there's a small bump to even it all out because there are differing numbers of schools that participate in different sports. I assume there's at least 50 schools in the SEC sponsored sports.
