It was the first time a college football game of any conference anywhere was broadcast in prime time television. It was a smashing success.
That game then and there completely changed not only SEC football, but college football as we know it. That game turned college football into a nationally relevant sport, something it wasn't prior to then. (Remember, pro football, baseball, and boxing were all much, much bigger draws up until that point. Now, only the NFL draws higher TV ratings than SEC football.)
