Virginia Tech first admitted women in 1921. Their Corps went to only 2 year compulsory in 1932 and corps membership became voluntary starting in 1964.

A&M admitted women full time starting in 1963 and corps membership became voluntary for men in 1965.

I think the reason they have normal(?) cheers and cheerleaders is because they have a 40 year headstart on letting women into the university and started down the slope of not being completely military starting in 1932.
