Which CFB program is greater historically: Arkansas or West Virginia?

The two programs seem pretty comparable to one another. All-time, West Virginia is 22nd in winning percentage while Arkansas is 26th in winning percentage. However in the AP era, Arkansas is 22nd in winning percentage while West Virginia is 25th. Both programs were among the best teams in weaker conferences. Arkansas was top 3 along with Texas and Texas A&m in the SWC while West Virginia had a top 3 program in the Big East when Miami and Virginia Tech were still in the conference. Both teams have about the same number of bowl wins and conference titles. Which program should be ranked higher all-time: Arkansas or West Virginia?

offseason threads start sooner and sooner and get worse and worse.
I'm all for baiting Arkies but, damn.
Oh, and WVU just to get the party started.

Well, since your question is historical, you forgot to mention the most important indicator: NC's. So, clearly its Ark. Next thread please.

You do know WV played in the big east. A top 25 winning percentage in the big east is no big deal.

They are pretty similar really. Arky claims a NC and WV has a slightly better winning percentage overall.
Arky has more All Americans historically 23 to WV's 11.
Arky's bowl record is a pretty bad 13-23-3
WVU's bowl record not much better and less appearances with 14-17
I would give a slight nod to Arky tougher conferences, and a NC.

Contrary to popular belief, the Southwest Conference was never a weak conference.

Not going to read the thread but all of the numbers suggest The Hogs are way ahead of WV.

This sentence makes me acknowledge your ignorance and disregard your argument.
West Virginia has spent the majority of their history as an independent. They were in the Southern Conference from 1950-1967 and joined the Big East in 1991 in response to expansion triggered by Arkansas' move to the SEC. The SoCon is now a D-1AA conference, WV was left out when the ACC formed. We've always been part of a major power conference. The SWC was a major player and we were a dominant force and nationally relevant for 30+ years before the bottom fell out and we took our growing pains lumps moving to the SEC even with Danny Ford and Hootie there's only been a handful of seasons that we weren't a factor in the West.
Arkansas as a football program has traditionally overachieved and been the underdog which we gladly accept as a badge of honor.
