It was the most wins and best winning percentage in the history of your program (unless 6-1 in 1902 counts to you?)

stassen

Has this been a talking point in South Carolina? The only other season I could see people really pointing to would probably be going 10-2 in 1984

Their 2010 team was a far better team than 2011 even though they had some really bad losses. Alshon Jeffery was a much better player in 2010, Lattimore was healthy for the entire season, and their QB played at a higher level. The only reason 2011 USC had more wins is because 2010 USC played a much more difficult schedule.

Considering they lost their tailback and the QB ended up with Dr Drew, Carolina can count what they did in as their best

In the two best years in their football history they still couldn't beat Auburn..

Eh in 2010 they weren't so bad. We couldn't stop Cam Newton and the fighting Newton's we're the national champs. 2011 however was the most devastating loss I've been witness to as a Gamecock just from the expectations of going into the game and what it meant to our season (lost us the East but I think Gamecock fans were thinking we'd lose a lot more games if we can't beat AU at home) With that said it seemed to be a blessing in disguise as that was the game that led to Garcia's removal and Shaw taking the helm full time.

But yes it has to be considered the best. Obviously some of these programs aren't where they are historically but for SC to beat UGA, UT, UF, Clemson, and Nebraska all in one season on its way to its most wins ever is pretty big. Add on top of that makes us 10-0 vs the likes of UGA, UT, UF, Clemson, Nebraska, and Alabama over the past 2 years is something you'd never see in any period of Gamecock football (and yes during that stint we had some pretty horrific losses as well)

That stat is impressive for any program IMO

I agree with this. They were better at QB, RB, and WR in 2010. Defense was about even, IYAM.

Couldn't have said it better myself...

This

I mean, they had to run into Auburn twice... That had to suck. Newton just dominated them.

Too bad Stephen Garcia was sober the day he played Alabama.

How? We finished 1-2 vs the West in both seasons, went from losing @UK to beating crushing UK, played a Nebraska team that was on par of the FSU team we played in Atlanta last season. Didn't have Lattimore for either but as you can tell a sober Shaw >> hungover Garcia.

The only difference was no SECCG appearance, which under the assumption we would've lost to LSU, would've made us 11-3 instead of 11-2.

Point I'm making is that the schedule holds no water when trying to make the argument that our 2010 was better than our 2011 team.

eta: I think we showed our team was much better actually. Looki what our offense / team did when Lattimore went out last season? Flopped @UK and had a bad loss and did the same vs FSU. Now look what we did without Lattimore this season? Continued what would be a game-winning drive @MSU and finished 5-1 I believe without him.

He was against Auburn the first time...

I can't say that about the second time...

South Carolina's SEC West schedule in 2010 vs 2011

2010

National Championship Auburn (2x)
10-3 Arkansas team that made a BCS Bowl
Top 10 Alabama team

2011

10-3 Arkansas
8-5 Auburn
7-6 Mississippi State

2011 South Carolina played one team that finished the season ranked inside the top 20 this year. 2010 USC played five teams that finished the season in the top 20. There is no question that the 2010 team played a significantly tougher schedule.

Ok? And I'm trying to say that doesn't prove that our 2010 team was better than 2011 team. Both went 1-2 vs the West, yes the 2010's win over Bama was much more impressive than 2011's win over MSU but the 2011 win crushed UK where 2010 bombed. The 2011 team played as good a team in Nebraska as the 2010 team played FSU but the 2011 won in convincing fashion, the 2010 team the opposite. The 2011 team could win without Lattimore, the 2010 team couldn't. Yes if the 2011 team had gone to the SECCG like the 2010 team they would've lost but that would've mean they would've gone 11-3, instead of 11-2. Where as the 2010 team finished with a 9-5 record.

Yup, and had a national championship invite in hand if we could beat Navy, regardless of what happened in the Clemson game the next week. Bombed against a bad Navy team (who we've since beaten thrice but seems meaningless compared to that loss) but at least we won at Clemson. Then dropped the Gator Bowl to Okie St.

Yep, we were one stupid scheduling decision and our star running back having a broken leg away from a National Title.
