I also don't understand the recruiting statement. He lost some from the 2012 class but gained some also, and did a decent enough job given the circumstances. He's off to a very good start on 2013.

The 2012 class gains in my mind, were decommits from other schools, and the heart and play makers were Sherman recruits. Polo might be good, but I have serious reservations about DeVante Harris. The Monroe and Thompson loses were especially bad. Again, this is opinion, and I might be proven completely wrong.

My biggest problem with Sumlin being his system doesn't do it for me, and again that to some extent is opinion. I don't think the wide open 5 wide spread utilizes enough athletes and mismatches, and I don't see the talent that A&M has recruited as suiting that particularly well.

There are enough athletes in the SEC where the defensive backs can just be left out in man coverage on your primary outside receivers, and the third and fourth defensive backs can blow up and dominate the smaller slot guys. In my opinion, again just opinion, is that the offense Sumlin runs utilizes the mismatches that don't exist in the SEC. Two of Houston's leading three receivers last year were under 5' 9". Is that necessarily a problem? No. If you are getting the ball in your play makers hands, so be it. 5500 passing yards, and winning a lot of games is impressive. If it is effective, it is effective. I just don't believe it will be effective in the SEC. An 8-4 Ole Miss beat the best Tech team in the history of their program. Of course there are examples of the wide open spread offense winning games that show the opposite, I just don't think it is a national championship winning formula.

For 2013... He is recruiting Kenny Hill, Swoopes, when Kohl Stewart is already rated a 5 Star by ESPN. In my opinion, Stewart is light years ahead of both, and should be the future. I don't like how he pulled Ty Slanina's offer. I don't like how he is switching to the 4-3. I don't like how he isn't recruiting Keith Ford. I don't like how he is going very national, I would prefer a stronger approach to Houston and Louisiana, and more SEC states. I do like his presence in Dallas, however.

Again, this is all opinion, but at what point do we say there is a systematic failure? Obviously losses aren't going to be the telling statistic. With Sherman, he was completely rebuilding a team, and started a very young team. I highly doubt you were disappointed in what Sherman was doing at the end of 2010 when he was also a .500 coach. Sumlin won't have an experienced quarterback, but he will have an experienced offensive line, great running backs, and Swope on offense. Defensively DeMontre Moore and Sean Porter combined for 18 sacks. In fact the Aggie defense lead the nation in sacks with 51. The next closest team had 46, and the closest SEC team was LSU with 39.

How many wins does Sumlin need in his first 3 seasons? When do Sumlin's recruits need to step up with playmaking ability? Another problem I feel with recruiting slot receivers, and smaller speed backs in their inability to transition to other positions. When you are recruiting tight ends and power backs, you have a little bit more freedom to move around players.
