the man was a great football coach. he took advantage of the rules of the day (or lack thereof) and ran his program like a professional team. the sec was not the premier conference during his tenure and his accomplishments were not as highly rated as they would be in this era because he probably would have had alabama on probation about 50 times. he signed as many players as he wanted to, overtly paid his players (arranged for alumni to) and the best cars went to the best players. kenny stable openly admited to getting any car he wanted and never knowing where his income source originated. but, like i say, given the fact that his practices were accepted, he was a great football coach.

Bear Bryant went 11-1 at KENTUCKY, won the SEC and defeated a perfect Oklahoma team in the bowl game. They have never, and may never reach that level again.

So yeah, give him some props.
