First, this is not a BenchMcElroy alter - we already know who that is. And before anyone comes in and tells me about how good McElwain has been, I understand that Alabama has scored more points in the past four years than ever before. I get that. But it hasn't been enough.

I went back and collected all of the official NCAA red zone statistics from 2008-2011. Over that four year period, Alabama was 96th in the country in touchdown percentage in the redzone, scoring touchdowns on only 55.7% of the time. That was 11th worst in the SEC, better than only Vandy.

During that time, only two things were constant: McElwain called the plays, and Nick was head coach. We've had different quarterbacks, receivers, running backs, offensive line personnel, and different position coaches. You have to put that on McElwain.

Bama never had more productive offenses in it's history. McElwain did a terrific job.

Alabama's offense the past few years set all kinds of school records. Passing yards in a season, rushing yards in a season, points scored in a season. The players were very well coached. I'll take the red zone percentage with those titles, bro.

you better duck... I tried to start a thread like this once but no one here agrees with us. However, I said that we would be successful if we went back to play action & incorporated the TEs... I was right.

well he does ahve 2 titles under his belt... but i do agree that at times mcelwain play calling drove me crazy. as for being the most productive years ever for bama, how many other schools can say the same in the last 4 seasons? i'm guessing a lot of them so this isn't per se anything special other than the game changing.

Why is redzone important?

Pts scored, TOP, yardage, TO, are the important stats. Redzone is useless.

Speaking of offensive coordinators...how did Bruce Arians end up with that cushy gig as the Steelers coordinator? You might remember him as the goof who called the pass to Ed Scissum in the 97 Iron Bowl and then he was fired/left.

So we score all our points from outside the 20, who gives a frick as long as we score. I guess I've kind of just accepted the fact the entire football field is our red zone and that we could take it to house on any given play, and I'm okay with that and will continue to be okay with that on the Nuss Bus.

Galatically stupid title, & I got progressively more stupid as I read it.

You've won 12, 14, 10, & 12 games in the 4 years he's been there, right?

48 games in 4 years...AVERAGING 12 wins per year, with two brand-new starters in both of your National Championship Years that he's responsible for grooming.

Like it or not, in your two biggest games of the year, we took your biggest weapon away. You took a loss in the 1st one because of it. In the 2nd, he went to his QB & beat us with him in convincing fashion when Trent really had another sub-par game (the late 30+ yarder that was the killshot put him at 90+, so he really did have a sub-par effort).

You cannot possibly be so stupid as to think a guy that won 2 rings with two 1st year starters, averaged 12 wins a year & went to two SEC Championship Games is over-rated & also think that you're glad to see him go.

Can you?

So the players aren't responsible for any of that? Good thing universities don't listen to fans or McElwain might not be a head coach right now.

If that is what you have to do to make yourself feel better about losing one hell of a coordinator.....then do it.
but...
If you really feel that way about this then you are a delusional fan and you would probably fit in better with alot of our fans over here

The coaching continuity has been important to Bama during their run. That continuity will be missed.

It is clear from your rant and the conclusion you drew from the research that you do not know shite about the game of football. The reason our redzone offense has sucked for several years is a blend of several things.

Yes, Coach McElwain's play calling does have a part in it but the issue is much deeper. The best redzone offense we have had was Cody lead left and the plya off of that of Cody5 (play action pass to the right). A play such as Cody5 can not be used often.

Our offense philosophy is predicated on slow read zone blocking with the RB pressing the hole. LSU and Auburn both understood the system and have had the personnel/system that allowed them to negate the effectiveness with d-line push in the middle. With the reduced area on the goal line when the d-line clogs the middle then the RB cannot make his first cut "in the hole" and the edge rush gets to the RB before he can get to speed.

In the redzone, man-up blocking with quick hit run plays and a lead block to pop a crease works best if your system is not designed to rush on the edge. The issues above predate the arrival of CJM in Tuscaloosa and is a concern CJM never had to face prior to coming to the SEC but I do think his use of the Cody lead and the QB sneak does show he understood the problem.

If the problem predated CJM then who would you guess chose the style of offense he was running/calling when he came here?

This is highly ridiculous. His offense just scored 21 points on one of the best defenses that was second only to Bama's in the country. McElwain's offenses helped win two NC's and was very productive. Don't let the redzone failures overshadow the overall accomplishments he brought to Bama.

48-6 in 4 yrs. Yeah, sure the man sucks and I don't even like Bama, but you have to call it like you see it. You fall way short of that.
