That's debatable to say the least

You have obviously never met the man, nor have a clue about his character. He may have been ill-suited for the Alabama head coaching job, but a coward he is not.

quote:You should only talk about what you know. I know Mike Shula and his wife and daughters. My wife is a college choir director - she and Shulas wife worked together and I met Shula on many occassions. This isn't about his character - it's about his coaching. As a coach he was a coward and he lost the team, the administration, and the fans. No one cried over his firing.

Mike is a good person, husband, and father but he's a terrible football coach.

Ketchupmoney, I was in Nola for the game and the Bama fans were really great, we had some good natured ribbing and were still cool with each other after what happened. You are a sore winner and a definite stereotype of what Bama fans are usually classified as. This is my 3rd game watching games live with Bama and I've gotta say, I've had the best time around then than any other fan base. Every experience I've had we can have a good time so far. So saying that, see you in tiger stadium next year Bama!!!

I'm hearing fans here say it'll help the players focus and inspire them to do better next year. I have a hard time believing that.
LSU is going to be 20 points better on talent alone than any team they play next year besides Alabama and Arkansas. Like this year, it's going to be pretty fricking hard for them to lose a game against anyone not named Alabama or Arkansas.
So there's really nothing to believe. LSU and Alabama are going to play on November 3rd next season, and the winner will likely win the SEC championship and play in the national championship. The players won't need to trust the coaches to want to win that game. Much like Alabama on Monday night, LSU will have the whole revenge factor on their minds.
Don't worry about LSU.

The point of my post is I don't think Les Miles is the reason for LSUs success. I think they've succeded in spite of Miles by recruiting the best talent in a talent rich state with no in serious in-state rival. If Miles were coaching in a state with two SEC teams I don't think he'd have a shot at the success he's had at LSU. That's just my opinion - for what it's worth - not an indictment of LSUs program. I think the kids will begin to question his leadership if he doesn't make some major changes and open up his mind to other points of view.

He did just fine at Oklahoma State, where he was recruiting against Oklahoma and Texas for players. Turned them into a winner. And he's not just sustained a winner here, but he's taken the program to a level in which it has never been.
I'm not trying to call you out here, but you don't know about us. You don't know about our program. Much like I'm not going to talk about Alabama's program, simply because I don't follow Alabama football as closely.
LSU will be fine. Les Miles is a good football coach. One game doesn't wreck a program.
Congratulations on the win.

quote:The respectful tone of your post is disarming - I appreciate it and I mean no disrespect to you or LSU. However, I disagree wtih you about Miles and I'd be very very dissapointed if he were ever hired at Alabama. I do follow LSU football closely - I live in New Olreans. I've seen LSU teams play some really horrific games under Miles and IMO the reason they lost was becuase of Miles inferior coaching Xs and Os. The Auburn game last year is an example - Miles and Chavis couldn't have schemed much worse. Alabama played a terrible second half against Auburn too but they weren't outschemed and outcoached. They got outplayed and that's a lot different than being outsmarted.

LSU was lucky to even be in that game, thanks to amazing special teams play. Auburn was a substantially better team than LSU at that point in the season.
It was a tie game with 5 minutes left, against a team with a better running game and a quarterback that was 3x better than ours. Much like Monday night, I walked out of Jordan-Hare stadium knowing we'd lost to a better team. Those kind of losses are the easiest for me to take.
ETA: And it wasn't really Chavis who people criticized after that game. It was Crowton, for not trying to throw the ball downfield once against a really weak Auburn secondary. But overall, I still wouldn't say LSU lost that game because of coaching. If LSU would have been able to pull a win out on the road in that game, it would have been a huge, huge win.

I am hoping that this loss will be the catalyst for next season.
Much like the Alabama loss to Auburn last season when they gave up a 24 point lead.

Where were posts like this when LSU came out in full dickhead mode after the 9-6 fluke win? Nobody said a word and we put up with shite for months. It's different now huh?

Your an embarrassment to the Bama fan base. Mike Shula was in no way a coward, he may not have been a good head coach but a coward no. He took the job knowing the program was in the toilet. I did not cry when he was fired, but I was thankfull for him taking the job, and getting us through a bad period. Just go back to Tidefans and never come back here.
