What does "Roll Tide" mean?

Sorry if Germans. I've looked it up years ago and know what it means. I thought that the Bama football players would know..especially when you roll around "roll tide" 24/7.

Bama doesn't even know. What does an elephant have to do with a crimson tide?

Bear bryant never wore hounds tooth either. He wore black n white checked hats!

Has anyone else ever heard the civil war explanation? That there was so much blood in the water that when the tide rolled in it was blood red? (I would assume that it was maybe Pensacola Bay?)

I know the standard explanation is the O-Line during an old Auburn game... but I've heard the civil war connection as well. Just curious if I am the only one.
