Someone mentioned on the radio today that ESPN showed Alabama with only 8 NCs. Why does Alabama claim 13?

8 sounds good to me, how many does Espn give LSU credit for???

8 poll titles, one awful claim in 1941, and four Rose Bowl teams (before 1936) that were named by one service, or another, as champions. Most people don't like to acknowledge anything before 1936.

"only"
Almost every other team (except ND) would love to have "only" 8 NCs

A few of their claimed titles are sketchy at best but SOMEONE did in fact award them something I guess.

Good to be a Bama fan.

First, who cares. Anybody old enough to remember most of those probably needs a diaper change. Secondly, the generalizations in this thread are tired examples of the ignorance on this board.

We'll have 27 NC's after Jan 9th, bitches.

A win on the 9th will make 9 poll titles, which will move Bama ahead of ND for the most all time.
No matter how you choose to count, Bama always comes out looking good.

8, 13, 27...who cares? Use it for your entertainment purposes.
Like saying, "Hey, where's Bama ranked by Houlgate this year?" "You don't know? It's fourth, but I guess they knew more about football in the 30s."
Or "1941. Explain the 19 position jump from #20 to a NC after 1 game again."
Or in response to the typical slam on LSU's 2003 split with USC "How many outright championships did the beloved Bear win because we know everything before then was split?"
Finish with "What's your record against LSU and Auburn this century?"

And I've only got 4 balls. But that puts me way ahead of the curve.

The BCS champion is automatically awarded the Coaches' Poll championship. Of the current 120 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS, formerly I-A Division) schools, only 30 have won at least a share of a national title. Of these 30 teams, only 18 teams have won multiple titles. Of the 18 teams, only seven have won five or more national titles: Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, Miami, Nebraska, and Ohio State.
