Bama being in the big game has actually bought Texas some time. I think that's why Brown did not announce his "retirement" after the loss to Baylor.
They are actually looking for an honorable way out for Mack - they owe him that - if he wanted to coach somewhere else, fine, but he doesn't want to do that, and he's settled in Austin. They're trying to find a way to add him to the AD staff, like executive AD emeritus for football or something.
I heard he's willing to forego some of the buyout if he can save face and retain a position with the university. They are all working that out now. I don't know if Saban's the guy, but Sexton wants him to be talked about if for no other reason to get that bump, win or lose after January 9th.

If I could make that kind of money and live in Austin I'd be out of Bama last week.
