So, what was the REAL PURPOSE of the BCS

I know that the word is that the BCS's purpose was to match the "top 2 teams" in the NC. However, wasn't the intent to cross the bowl conference affiliations so that we could get the Pac-10 champ against the SEC champ, or the Big 12 champ against the Big 10 champ, etc. in a NC game? That being the case, we should only have CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS in the BCSNCG!!!
If we are going to see a rematch of a inter-conference game, what's the purpose of having the BCS. We don't need that, we already have a conference schedule. To win each conference, there is a conference schedule that determines that conference champ which kind of like playoff where the champion is pretty much decided ON THE FIELD, not speculation.
All that being said, this is the gripe that I have about a rematch between LSU & Bama. We have seen it on the field. Bama got its chance. Since LSU beat UGA, let someone get a chance who has not played LSU. Isn't that the purpose of the BCS to play the BEST 2 CONFERENCE CHAMPS? That's right, if UGA would have won, they should have been in the BCSNCG because they would have proven that they can beat a top ranked team. If UGA had won, their conference record would have been the SAME as LSU's & Bama's.
I am so tired about hearing that Bama is the best team or second best team in the nation. They had their chance. There are plenty times where the "best team" did not win that day, but the team that won "on the field" was the champ. Do you take away the Giants super bowl trophy because the Patriots were really better them? Isn't there plenty of times where the 2 best teams in the NFL are in the same conference, but ONLY ONE can go to the Super Bowl.

Why did you start another thread about it?

BCS goal is simple.
Match the two best teams in the country against each other REGARDLESS of bowl ties ins (old system) and conference affiliation.
LSU vs Bama probably accomplishes that goal better than LSU vs OSU or someone else.

There ought to be a button when you start a new thread that says "Is this post about the rematch?" and if you chose "Yes" you automatically get banned.

For all of the Bowl lovers, the guys that have kept this system in place, the point is simple... the regular season counts.
If that is the case, then the game on Nov. 5th happened, and it counted, and it doesn't need to be played again.

The BCS was created to prevent the situation were #1 did not play #2. This year, #1 has played and beaten #2 at THEIR house (Bryant Freakin Denny stadium for those of you keeping score at home).
That is why this year, the #1 team just needs a good bowl game. After all, this is the BOWL Championship Series. And, less we forget...
In 2006, if Michigan gets a rematch of the 2006 "game of the century" we never get to see UF whoop Ohio State's butt and start the current SEC streak. Imagine how egregious it would have been to keep the superior team out. AND, that "game of the century" was at tOSU's house, and UM still did not get a rematch. Remember how clear it was that tOSU and UM were head and shoulders above the competition?
Like it or not, OSU can sling the ball around which is the blueprint for beating LSU. You can't run on LSU, but you can pass the ball.

And all this time I thought the purpose of the BCS was to frickover Boise State. That's what I read on their boards anyway.

It is one of their purposes for sure, but you are right, it is not THE purpose.

Notre Dame isn't in a conference. Where do they fit in the BCS?
