re: Why are assistants under Saban not good head coaches?

Most of them are pretty young but look at all the coaches fired this year. Dennis Erickson? Nutt, Neuheisel,.... These guys were once considered really good coaches but it's hard to catch time in a bottle. Richt was considered a world beater and the last few years he's been on the hot seat.

College coaching is a high risk, high reward profession and tough to be a big winner. Only time will tell.
