It's the principle of the matter.

Basically, the last game that LSU and Alabama played means nothing.

Now, Alabama gets a mulligan...a do-over, and this time the national championship is on the line.

It would be stupid if Alabama won to crown them the national champion while LSU finishes 13-1 and Alabama finishes 12-1, with both of their losses being to each other. Not-to-mention, LSU would have beaten Alabama at their house while the national championship is at a neutral site, plus LSU would have one more win against Georgia (assuming they win), and an SEC Championship.

It would make literally no sense in the world for the college football season to end like that.

It might not make any sense but that's the way the conference commissioners designed it. They realized some years the best two teams might come from the same conference.

LSU is playing for the SECC this weekend. I would rather Bama be in that position than sitting at home so enjoy it. Unless LSU were to get blown out, the game won't make a difference in the grand scheme of things.
