bama in BCSNC = at minimum 1/2 NC for LSU

isnt this really the consolation prize herbie was struggling to articulate tonight on the BCS show?
not so much the SEC championship LSU gets to play for and bama doesnt, but on its body of work, LSU will be guaranteed a split NC, at worst (with both LSU and bama at 1 loss).
to me, the other silver lining is the BCS will take a major credibility hit.

If Bama wins...LSU can have half the AP championship if it makes them happy.
But the fact is the BCS championship will be awarded solely to the winner of the BCS NCG.

I can see if the game is close and Alabama wins by 3 a split title being the right thing. Obviously a big if but if Alabama wins by 14+ why should it be split?

I would have no problem if Bama won the game, but the AP decided to award them their national championship. Seems reasonable. But if Bama does win then I'll not hesitate to call the 2011 Bama team the BCS national champs - just as LSU correctly refers to their 2003 team as BCS national champd.

I am not sure why some LSU fans would demand half of NC even if LSU lost to Bama in the BCSCG. Isn't this what the BCSCG for: deciding who is the best team in the country? You play 12~13 games to earn the right to play the other best team in the country to determine who is truly the best. The rest is irrelevant, rematch or not.
From another perspective: 12 of the past 45 Super Bowls are rematches of the regular season. Teams winning the regular season matchup hold a combined record of 5-7 (1-5 since 1990) in a Super Bowl rematch. If you remember the last one in 2007-08 season, when the Pats won 18 consecutive games before SB, including week 17 regular season win over the Giants. I think it would be ridiculous for the Pats to "claim" half of the Super Bowl just because they already beat the Giants once in regular season. By the same token, it would be ridiculous for LSU to "claim" half of the BCSNC even if they lost to Bama in the rematch.
