Its one thing for a fan to poison some trees. It's quite another for a head coach to slap one of his players during a game.

Again, wrong is wrong. Updyke's actions are not supported by me or the overwhelming majority of Bama fans. What he did is deplorable and he deserves the fullest punishment that can be given to him.
you can point out all the negatives on Bama's side that you'd like. I'll not blindly defend Bama when wrong. Trooper - as an assistant coach - was wrong. I don't understand why this is so hard for some AU fans to admit.
