Here is how I see it. When there is a big game, I could see it being understandable if the professors said, attendance is optional. Because, believe it or not, there are some students that go to class regardless. Like the foreign students. I can see where it can cause some discussion. I mean, it is an academic institution shutting the doors for a football game. Goes for any school. Classes should remain open, but students shouldn't have an absence counted against them if they don't show up.

So are you going to give the students that did come optional attendance for the next class meeting when you have to go over the material the normal people missed?
