I didn't know that short, slow and being a defensive liability made someone a quality basketball player.

I have the same reservations about MA as 'alude but MA is a better coach than Pel. Firing Pel didn't happen quick enough. His hiring was the result of 2 botched coaching searches if not 3.

That is why there was no coaching search this time.

MA was HIRED before Pel was FIRED

i doubt that's true, but i'd be happy if it was. it means the administration had their shite together enough to avoid the problems of the previous coaching search

What on Earth is bad about that?

And you said that former players had to name drop MA to Jeff Long? The guy was the main target of the whole fanbase as our next coach for years. I'm sure Long had never heard of him though until some former players did a name drop.

He did not bad mouth anyone in the program but you could tell something changed that he did not want to be a part of.

actually, he did. he went crying to national media pretty quickly.

Overall, MA will not be able to do what Nolan did.

maybe. nolan is a top all time coach, and most coaches don't win national championships. but Mike can do a hell of a lot better than what Pel did.

Wrong again, Rot was getting the run around. Wanted to leave but was getting put off. So, he went to the national media to make sure he got his release ASAP. Which he did. There is a lot of butt hurt fans replying in this thread, right now.

uh..hum...

No 1 player or coach is greater than the program

Neither were going to get the job done at Arkansas

He was never going to play PG...He's not ready now and we have true PG's coming in...with size

I don't hear anybody griping on the football side about trading up for better talent...do you?

No because Petrino had to build his program the way he needed. Pel had a top 5 recruiting class (that he recruited) and was not allowed to coach them. MA better produce with that class or people should question his coaching abilities.

I hope MA wins but you have to understand the concerns

At the end of the day...at least for Arkansas...regardless if its football or basketball you won't get top talent year in/ year out...that said, you better have a fricking great coach...

we already had one in football and baseball...we now have a coach for basketball too...

why don't you just get with the program

Over the 4 years he was here this is what he recruited.

Let me help you out with this:
2007
Marcus Britt - Played all 4 years, was nothing more than a mediocre player, did not graduate, always on time for the gang bang.
Nate Rakestraw - Transfered after 1 season finished his career in the NAIA
Michael Sanchez - Always injured, graduated.
Levan Patasia - Left after 1 season, now in the sunbelt.

2008
Courtney Fortson - Left after 2 seasons, was suspended for half of So year
Jason Henry - Suspended 3 times his Fr year, and left team, transferred to Tech for 1/4 semester before going to Europe to play.
Andre Clark - Left team after 1 season, now at TCU
Brandon Moore - Left team after 1 season, in the sunbelt IIRC
Montrell McDonals - Left team before his first season started
Rotnei Clarke - Transferred after 3 seasons at Arkansas to play in the Horizon league.

No graduates from this class.

2009
Jamel Farmer - JUCO player who never amounted to anything, quit the team before his final semester, coaxed by Pel to return to sit on the bench, graduated.
Anthony Borden - Never made it to campus, never had a realistic chance of doing so.
Julysses Nobles - Contributed his first two seasons, diamond in the rough.
Marshawn Powell - Great Freshman season, he had Pel butted heads his So season, was going to transfer had Pel stayed.
Glenn Bryant - Great jumping ability, and ......... now plays in the MAC.
Delvon Johnson - JUCO transfer, graduated.

2010
Mardracus Wade - Good defensive player, no offensive game, diamond in the rough.
Rickey Scott - Good player who was injured alot
Marvell Waithe - Has a awful looking shot, and is too big of a puss to play inside. JUCO transfer who was suppose to be deadly from beyond the arc.

You are wrong, he asked for his release and Long told him to wait until he met with the new coach, whoever that may be before he would grant it. TeamClarke met with Anderson and decided to stay.

This was in March.

The incoming freshmen make it to campus. Rot once again gets the sticky fingers, this time with an item of a freshman as a prank, allegedly.

Rot gets his arse whipped figuratively and literally on the court by a freshman, allegedly.

TeamClarke asks Anderson for a release, Anderson says they have to meet with the AD as he can not grant a release. The AD was out of town on vacation, that night TeamClarke contacted the media because the AD wouldn't immediately fly back and meet their demands.

This was June.

Team Clarke never took the high road from what I saw, admittedly I am not an insider though.

There is no truth to your statement.
The clarks' cried to the media because Long, who is the only person at Arkansas who could grant the release, was on vacation.
And rotnee did not get released one second sooner because of his media outburst. He had to wait until Long got home from vacation.
What was the hurry? It took rontee 2 months to find a school to go to anyway.
Rotnee is the bad apple that spoiled the whole barrel.
