Note that this occurred prior to the courts allowing him to leave the State of Alabama while on bail, so the Alabama Superfan just incriminated himself with that comment.

It's still just some trees. Pay a fine, do a few days in the county and then back out for football season.

It's still trees. He poisoned TREES. Nobody deserves to go to prison for poisoning a couple trees. If he had actually hurt someone in the process that would be one thing, but we are talking about trees here. Should he be punished? Yeah sure. But prison is a bit extreme

It's not like he crop dusted your campus. Fertilizers and poison run off into sewers and retention ponds all the time. You are vastly overstating what he did if you are gonna bring that up.

He could say the same thing if a guy from Louisiana visited Alabama and happened to recognize him.
