Take a look at my tier system.
If I end up in grad school @ f$u, you can bet your lucky stars I'll never root for them in anything, ever. Just b/c you attend school somewhere, that doesn't automatically change your team allegience from who you've been rooting for the last 20 years

I attend Southern Illinois, and root for the Salukis in all sports, but my childhood team growing up in So Cal was USC. Can't imagine ever not cheering for the Trojans.
I enjoy going to Auburn games, since it's not that far away and I kinda pull for them when I am there.
I will probably end up at Arkansas for grad school though, so I have a soft spot for the flagship.

My brother went to LSU for two years. When they played Bama at home, he was sportin Bama gear in the student section. Just cause u attended a school, doesn't mean you have to pull for em.

I started a thread about this and got the third worst flame I've ever experienced.
You can cheer for whoever but I think that sidewalk alumni are just cheap. I think there is a criteria to meet before you can be a real fan and they are as follows:
Graduated from favorite school or currently attend said university.
Must be able to do 10 pull-ups (women get by with three) at the entrance of the stadium before admission. I spurn out of shape, willfully fat people.
Exceptions do apply and are as follows:
Unavoidable financial hardship or fan's chosen major was not offered at favorite institution.
I have undergraduate degrees from both Miss.St and Ole Miss. My Ole Miss degree is the one I use to make a living but my Miss.St degree got me into the program.
In the end, I pick the Rebels because it's just more of my tastes but I still have some Bulldog tee shirts.
(The South Alabama thing is personal).

i just disagree with this. just because i go to a school doesn't mean i have to become a fan. i hate PSU and will never root for them but i still went there. thank the lawd im back in God's country.
if you grow up with a team you should remain loyal, you can't just turn your back on them and you cannot just hop on a bandwagon. i hate tech fans who go to UGA and pretend they are dawg fans. they cannot be forgiven for their past transgressions just because they attend Georgia.
