No, no, no... you've got it all wrong. See he didn't even know that he had sucker punched someone. He was living by the principle of "not letting your right hand know what your left hand is doing" (being a good, God fearing Christian, and all..).
He didn't know, so it doesn't matter. His hand acted without his knowledge.
