The whole entire country is well aware of Cam Newton, Gus Malzahn, and the Auburn offense. It is an incredible thing to watch (even for a Duck fan). However, I am curious about the Auburn defense. I know it has been criticized a little earlier in the year (especially the secondary). However, it seems to me as if the defensive coordinator makes superb second half adjustments. The Auburn defense was incredible in the second half against LSU and Alabama. Can any Auburn (or any fans for that matter) vouch for how good they are? What are their strengths and weaknesses? It seems to me that they don't get the credit they deserve.

there D line will frick oregon up pretty bad, they've been hard to stop all year. Secondary is weak if you have time to throw, second half adjustments and just plain good.

Secondary starters have been hurt all year....played a lot of freshmen and redshirts which is why our pass defense didn't set any records.
That being said, we are apparently all healthy going into Monday. So we will see if we can hang with your aerial attack.

D-Line - good at stopping the run and pressuring the QB; also it is Fairley (haha) deep
LBs are good, but inconsistent except for Bynes (our MLB) who is good and consistent
Secondary is good in support of stopping the run, poor in pass coverage and not biting on play action, etc. Pass coverage is wholly dependent on d-line getting pressure.
Second half adjustments by the coaching staff have been unbelievable.

They're not great, but they're much better than anything Oregon has seen.

Auburn doesn't handle quick RBs very well so it will be interesting to see how Auburn stacks up against L. James.
Honestly though, I'm not sure if it's that Roof makes good halftime adjustments or if our D-Line just wears out the opposing line by the 4th quarter.

I suggest this. Feel free to pass this on to Kelly.

The defense as a whole does what it has to do. Ted Roof catches some flak, but nobody can deny that the second half adjustments we make are pretty incredible week to week. I believe we average giving up a touchdown less in the second half than we do in the first half, which is pretty incredible in itself.
If you want to know position by position details, our defensive line is the strength of the team. Everyone knows about Nick Fairley, who is just impossible to block consistently, but we also have guys who play incredibly well in Zach Clayton, our other DT, and Antoine Carter and Nosa Eguae, our starting DEs, are very good at keeping containment and making plays. We also rotate a few other defensive linemen, including Mike Blanc, Jeffrey Whittaker, Dee Ford, and Corey Lemonier, all of which are more than capable of toting the load and providing invaluable depth and talent at that position.
Our linebacking corps is pretty good, simply because having Bynes at MLB is awesome. He really is the leader of the defense, he has a great football mind and always makes plays when he can. He has a huge heart and in games where our defense gets burned (see Arkansas), he's the one who never gives up and eventually makes the plays (two late interceptions). We also play Darren Bates, former safety, who needs a little work as he tends to go for a hard hit instead of wrapping up, leading to screen passes being thrown his way and going for big yards occasionally. Our other OLB, Craig Stevens, has experience and has played incredible this year after a lackluster start against Clemson. We also play Eltoro Freeman, who is very good and getting better. Our linebacking corps on the whole are good.
The gripes of the defense come with the secondary. Etheridge is a serviceable safety, and Demond Washington is a decent CB but nothing special. He's actually pretty short, working against him. Neiko Thorpe is another CB, much maligned, and he's pretty terrible but I guess he has his moments. T'Sharvan Bell is much of the same. In all honesty our best defense against the pass in a great pass rush. We are consistently able to generate pressure without blitzing, and that is just invaluable in masking our deficiencies against the pass.
Of our defensive coaches, I'm happy with all of them sans Tommy Thigpen, the coach of our secondary. It seemed that our CBs never turned their heads to the ball when it was in the air, leading to many completions that just did not have to be completions. That problem has been resolved, but it was against Ole Miss when we first started to see our CBs turn their head, and that is just too far along in the season to resolve that problem.

Auburn faced 6-7 teams that either had a bye week or played a Div II team before playing us. This allowed them to have extra time to prepare extra looks that we had not seen in film. This was very problematic early on against MSU and Clemson as they spent much of their fall practice putting in a game plan for us.
Linebacker corps is very good against the run but has a lot of weak areas in coverage. this is mostly due to the fact we had to shift safeties around to help corners in coverage opening running lanes up as we had to move linebackers around some to cover the perimeter passing game. The last half of the Alabama game and the SECCG our secondary looked very solid but i have no idea if that will carry over.

The SECCG was by far the best overall defensive game for our D. Playing 11 games straight AU still has a slight depth issue and had to start players in secondary that have experience, heart and grit but not stellar in coverages partly because AU plays soft in first half. Although, they ramp up aggressiveness in second half along with great adjustments by DC. AU does have talented freshman that come in for spells, but need more development. With no game to follow it will be more aggressive and leave everything on the field like SECCG.
Obviously our D-Line is the shining star for our D with Bynes at LB who is a great leader and sound in all facets at LB. I will say our secondary has come through when it counts and the D as whole do not ever quit and feel the game cannot be won. They do not let mistakes and big plays mess with their focus (A very big intangible in my opinion).
I see some potential mismatches, but I am excited to see the game and watch it play out on the field.

They'll be like a bull through rice paper with your O-line. They outweigh your Offensive line an average of 52 pounds per lineman.

What are their strengths and weaknesses?
Our defensive strength is Cam Newton and the O boys. Ted Roof's job is to not give up as many points as Cam can score. Pretty simple gameplan.
I could coach that if I had a Cam Newton
