That's old school spearing. And, when you consider the fact that he launched himself in the air (another non-natural football play), it's pretty clear that he was trying to hurt the guy.

Funny, you can tell who the ones are that never played football at any level.
The first thing you are taught is to always, ALWAYS, hit with your head up, so as to not injure your own neck.
Once you dip your head down, and lead with the crown, you're doing nothing but spearing and increasing the chances of injuring yourself, and the one you're spearing.
