No. A team should have a minimum of 8 wins to make a bowl game. About a week ago, I proposed the number of bowl games being cut down to 20 and taking only 40 teams. There are 39 teams right now with 8 wins or more. The Sunbelt champion gets an automatic bid. So that makes it exactly 40 teams who makes it to a bowl.
Those teams are:
Florida State
Maryland
N.C. State
Virginia Tech
Nebraska
Missouri
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas A&M
West Virginia
UCONN
Michigan State
Ohio State
Wisconsin
Central Florida
Tulsa
Navy
Miami (OH)
Northern Illinois
TCU
Utah
Oregon
Stanford
South Carolina
Auburn
Arkansas
LSU
Alabama
Mississippi State
Florida International
Nevada
Boise State
Hawaii
Fresno State
Air Force
San Diego State
Ohio
Temple
Toledo
Southern Mississippi

I was just about to say that you should need 8 wins to get to a bowl. Yes I realize that would hurt SC, as we dont get 8 wins too often. But it should mean something to get to a bowl.

I could roll with that if you went with teams with 8 wins a season and a seeding system that took into consideration strength of schedule.
You can't convince me a Ohio U whose 8 wins were Wofford, Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Akron, Miami (OH), Louisiana-Laf, Buffalo, and Temple deserves a bowl bid over a SEC team that has 6-7 wins that include wins over quality, ranked teams along the way.
