In Dallas, ( I used to live there ) I'd go out to eat around McKinney Avenue and the Uptown area. Nick and Sams on Maple, Uncle Julio's on Lemmon Avenue are my favorites when I am in town. Victory Park which is sort of where Uptown meets the West End, has some good bars and restaurants, too.

This.

Uptown is my favorite area these days.
Primo's has outstanding people watching and good tex-mex. There's a sports bar just a couple of doors down (franky's) and another dive bar'ish place next door (quarter bar).

West End has grown pathetic, IMO. Too many homeless. Doesn't feel safe.

I think the restaurants up around knox-henderson are more interesting.

Greenville Avenue is pretty good too.

Haven't been to Deep Ellum in probably 10 years. But it used to be the best area for live music. Don't know if that's still the case.
