for Auburn fans without being accusatory. In Auburn's 2010 class they got the Number 1 recruits in the state of Arkansas (Michael Dyer), Louisiana (Trovon Reed), Mississippi (Shon Coleman) AND Cam Newton.
In the extremely territorial south that, my friends, is extremely impressive - almost unheard of.
Does that AT ALL sound odd to Auburn fans, or do they just explain it as players buying into a new coach, one who at the time had a creeer record of 13-24?
Just asking.

Not to mention, they just finished a really crappy season.

Add in, that it was under a coach whose previous stop was 5-19, and they were coming off an 8-5 year, having lost 5 of their last 8 games. And the vocal and public re-emergence of Pat Dye on campus and being in alot of press conferences with the coaching staff.

fwiw, coleman commited to us when he was a 2*...he was not the #1 player in mississippi until near signing day. also, all i see on here is that trovon was not the #1 player either and that arky fans didnt want dyer. sounds like a bunch of scrubs to me

I think you can attribute a lot of that success to Trooper. ALso, the fans have a great atmosphere there. And kids had a shot at immediate playing time. Hell, when I went to games there I partied my balls off and had a great time. If I couldn't have gone to LSU, them , Ole Miss, ALabama, and UGA would be the schools I would look at.
And, I credit them for marketing themselves to these kids. We can laugh at the Tiger prowl deal with the limo, but it got their name in papers and message boards. We talked abotu it on the recruiting board here. A lot. Great marketing and strategy (I think mostly due to Trooper regardless of how you feel about him). In fact, it should be the new standard for most programs that had down years with a new coaching staff. VERY impressive to say the least.
I also remember seeing it pouring down rain last year and their student section was dancing to some techno shite. pretty impressive considering a lot of recruits were at that game.
The fans bought into it and if you have the fans, who also happen to be as rabid as LSU/Bama fans, it's easy to pull those kinds of recruits.
It is pretty easy to pull kids away from Arky. Hell, there best players have all been pulled at one point. Even Frazier is leaving and Mallett left too.
Trovon Reed was in a tough place in life. Wanted out of LA.
Suspect? Yes. Hard to believe? No. In fact, everything just happened to fall their way last year. Good for them. Plus, you've got to remember that when you get a few top recruits to "buy" into your program, they help recruit others.
A lot of different factors. Plus, it's a big time program.
I don't put anythign into it. Once Trooper and staff got those kids to buy into what they were selling (everything above + Malhzahn), it was downhill from that point on.

Auburn uses a lot of innovative and expensive recruiting methods.

Yeah, all of those players were on the offensive side of the ball. Why would they dare wanna play for one of the most explosive offenses in CFB history.
They should've went and played for LSU's offense, right?
