It appeared that the reporter caught the attorney out in the parking lot and got lucky.
There was no official statement, no quotes from the Newton's, only a lot of lawyer talk:
"I would suggest to you that what Cecil Newton has said to the NCAA has been truthful."
"Cam Newton knew nothing about any money discussions...if any discussions were had."

Officially, no, the silence hasn't been broken, you are correct. Unofficially, however, the silence has been broken.
