taken from the official Heisman Trophy website:
quote:

The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.

here are the facts:

1 - Cam was cited three times for academic misconduct while at UF (story)

2 - he has been arrested for felony charges of burglary, larceny, and obstruction of justice (story)

3 - he has been cited over TEN times for driving violations including driving without a license twice and driving on a suspended license (story)

and in case you are unaware, integrity means:
quote:

adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.

i'm not claiming to have integrity, but i'm not the one being considered for the Heisman Trophy.

You had to sign an integrity waiver to post in this forum anyway.

I've tried arguing this point to other people.

But they'll just throw "The best football player should have it period." argument in your face.

You are absolutely right. And it doesn't just mean integrity in terms of the law, either. Newton is clearly a selfish player who is obsessed with the glamour he receives.

If Reggie Bush didn't deserve a Heisman, no way Cam Newton does

Your 2010 Heisman winner is: Andrew Luck.

So why is there no record of him going before the academic council? No record of even a case? Did he receive preferential treatment or something?

No excuse for the other two, but people do grow and grow up. With the history Cam had coming in to Auburn, I'm sure it was made clear that it was one strike and he's out. And whether it was or not, knowing what I know now I would demand it be that way if he did something wrong. But by all accounts, however, Cam Newton has been a model citizen since arriving in Auburn.

So what is the starting and stopping point for the "integrity bit?" What is the statute of limitations? One year? Five years? Everybody has done stupid things in the past. It's not the mistakes that make the man, but how you deal with them.

i read that he transferred to Blinn before the case went before the council. and i would assume the Heisman voters would judge you on your entire academic or collegiate career, but i don't know the exact answer. anyone?

do you think respected news institutions check and double check their facts before running a news story? what you read is generally a glazed over version of the real story. the truth is probably worse.

HERE is a great article entitled "The Cecil and Kenny Show - The Ever Twisting Saga of Cam Newton". a few quotes:
quote:

But for pollsters, if Auburn keeps winning, what do you do? If Newton was really paid this massive amount of cash by Auburn to go to school there, he and Auburn have no business staying ranked high enough to compete for a BCS title. If I am a voter, win or lose, I dump Auburn out of the Top 2 this week.

quote:

Duck and cover Auburn and Cam Newton, because it’s about to hit the fan.

Good lord man. This is ridiculous. Are ya'll gonna start a new Cam Newton thread every hour rehashing the guy's trangressions? You gotta be proud of yourselves. I guess none of ya'll have EVER sinned or done anything wrong since ya'll are casting thousands of stones. Freakin' tools.

I am a sinner. I have sin in my heart.

but I'm also an LSU Tiger!

and my team will soon be undefeated again when AU is forced to forfeit their win against us!
