WHy would they err on the side of caution? If he's ineligible then the whole season is shot so it won't make a difference if they play him or not now.

We know nothing will be declared until the season is over so I fully expect AU to ride him to glory if they can. They will just deal with the ramifications later and the other teams that could be contenders will be screwed.

What will be the aftermath for the people making the decision if Cam is declared ineligible after the sesaon and Auburn is sanctioned (likely severely, if they played him knowing that he was most likely ineligible)? I would anticipate a number of people will lose their jobs. If your job was on the line would you play him? (You might make a different call if you weren't at personal risk, but is the dynamic the same if you lose your job if you make the wrong decision?)

because the ncaa will come down on them MUCH MORE SEVERELY if they continue to play a play who is as questionable as cam is. There is clearly a lot more than smoke in this situation.....If Auburn plays the guy today, it means they are going all in for this one season and saying screw the overall direction of the program. I got news for you...auburn doesn't win the NC with or without CAM...they will just screw it up for LSU.

No, the difference is - if they continue, now, knowing what they know is true, and have to vacate everything later, I will be 100% for the death penalty, as will many others. They can mitigate their damages by playing it straight from this moment forward.

If they forfeit all games Newton played in, shed everybody who has remotely dirty hands, lose 5 scholarships a year for three years, no post-season for 2 years - I can live with that. If they persist, the death penalty will be the only justice, and I'll add one more - kick them out of the SEC. They will have cost the SEC 10s of millions of dollars, knowingly, intentionally.

Also, Auburn has too many recent infractions to be given any more slack than that.
