Yeah they name will eventually change. I don't care how much look around it. It will change because Ole Miss is quick to bow down to the PC crowd. They've done it for the longest time now. It may not be this year or next year, but it's coming.

And if it's done tastefully, I'll be fine with it.

Remember, we were the flood for a couple of decades before we changed to the Rebels. It's not like we've been the Rebs forever.

Sorry for not caring all that much.

Yeah but most of the people living now, grew up knowing their school as the Rebels. They don't know anything about the Flood unless they read some books on it.

We were informally know as "The Red and Blue", prior to 1930. We were known as "The Flood" from 1930-1935. The name was unpopular and never caught on (we were very seldom referred to as the 'Flood" even in the newspapers) The name was changed to "Rebels" in 1936. This was chosen after several names (approved by alumni and students) were sent to 22 sportswriters across the South to vote. Of the 22 sportswriters, 17 voted for "Rebels". A judge from Vicksburg is credited with suggesting the "Rebels" name.
It also should be noted that a large number of students and alumni DID NOT WANT a team name, as they thought the name "Ole Miss" was in itself unique enough.
It's also interesting that on the list of names sent to the sportswriters to choose from was.."Massahs" (Old South version of "Masters")
Thank God that wasn't selected.
