I break Richt's tenure down something like this:

2002-2004 --> 19-5 in SEC play. Van Gorder still the D coordinator. Coaching against Franchione/Shula, Fat Phil, Zook, Holtz, Tuberville, Chan Gailey. 2 east titles, a #2 finish, and 1 SECC

2005 --> year of flux. Spurrier replaces Holtz. Meyer replaces Zook. Van Gorder leaves. Team loses 2 regular season games by combined 5 pts. DJ Shockley injury costs him possible shot at NC. Still wins east and SECC, but fans see the writing on the wall and are already complaining about Willie.

2006-2009 --> Willie still D coordinator and the D progressively gets worse each year until it was historically bad last year. Spurrier, Tubs/Chizik, Meyer, Shula/Saban, Fat Phil/Kiffin, Paul Johnson, etc. No SECC or SECCG appearances. 1 #2 finish. Loses to Vandy for the first time. Loses to UK twice. Goes 1-3 vs UF. Goes 1-3 vs UT. Loses to Tech for the first time. Loses to SC for first time and costs himself a shot at NC. Only 20-12 in conference play.

With the entire defensive staff besides Garner being fired 2010 starts a new era. And it makes me wonder: Did Richt get worse because coaches in the conference got better? Or did Richt get worse b/c his D Coordinator left? Or is it a combination of the two?

Richt should just go back to acting. I like him in "Twister."

Looks like coaching got better across the SEC and Richt was left in the dust.

He needs a good season this year and next or things will get hotter in Athens.

Also add playing with Donnan's players. Donnan didn't leave the cubard as bare as most people would have you think.

one of the great coaches in the SEC

down year with Cox last season, but he will develop Aaron Murray just like he did with Matt Stafford in making him the #1 overall pick.

Richt>>>Miles.

Not a lot of good coaches available out there. Keep him if you can.

The biggest problem with Richt is that he's trying to make Georgia the Florida State of the '90s but it hasn't been anywhere near as effective. He's brought all of the negative attributes of that program (heavily penalized, lots of arrests off the field) but not a lot of the good ones (great coaching staff, incredible recruiting). Also, Florida State was able to outathlete a lot of teams during the '90s ala USC during the last decade. It's extremely difficult to do that in today's SEC. Also, having two coaches in the same conference that is clearly better than you doesn't help. I still think Richt is a good coach but he needs to make some major changes to his coaching philosophy going forward.

I have seen a decline in our program since BVG left. Even though we won the SECCG in 2005 I believe that is when the decline began. Had BVG been at the reins of the D we very well win a MNC instead of an SECC.

BVG was the heart and soul of our Defense and CMR did a respectable job running the Offense as a HC.

Richt figures CWM can do the same thing BVG has been doing so turns the DC job over to him without so much as a search for a better DC. Richt is over-committed in his choice to his BFF and sticks with him way too long. He then hands over OC to Bobo without so much as a search. His inbred coordinators destroy everything BVG had built.

Focus and discipline deteriorate into the worst penalty and turnover ratio in the nation last year. Players dancing on the field during time outs when we are lonsing in the 4th QTR. The Inmates are running the asylum. Richt is an Idiot and should be fired for incompetence.

Resting on his laurels Richt gets a chance to "make changes" and hires CTG. I see lots of hope here. Unfortunately he does not take back over as OC or hire somebody capable to do it. We are all suppose to be reassured because he is now "MORE INVOLVED". Give me a break. CMR gets 3Milly a year to be involved.

Richt was never that great. He was very good and BVG was great and that is the closest this program has come to greatness.

I figure Richt, is just saving the Fire Bobo card, to milk a couple of more years out of us.

So much to say, but really who is still reading?

Richt is soft on crime, leans way to strongly on faith alone and relies on gimmicks rather than strategy. Georgia in the last 10 yrs should have won 1 or 2 NCs but they were limited by soft coaching. Sorry, it is what it is.
