The University of Alabama does pretty damn well for itself in terms of academics. Hell, Alabama and Auburn are both top fifty public institutions. Donors give money to UA, relative to things other than football. Senator Shelby, for one, works hard in Washington getting money for his Alma mater, as well as other Alabama schools. UA alone received 58.6 million towards capital improvements, for last year alone.

What does that mean, given that their are only fifty states?

Look, I am not going to get into a long discussion about this. Bottom line is that the state ranks in the bottom ten in just about everything that matters--education, income, business development, health, you name it.....as do most Deep South states

And spending small fortunes on football coaches and everything else associated with college football when that is the case is just kind of embarrassing.....

Again, Alabama is not unique in this regard in the South.....it is just the most extreme case, in my opinion.....
